About the Program
Empathy for Animals is a humane education and diversion program created by Compassionate Canine Society. It pairs rescue dogs saved from euthanasia with youth and young adults to teach compassion, responsibility, and emotional awareness.
Participants engage with the dogs through guided activities, reflective exercises, and structured discussions. Our curriculum—developed by legal, mental health, and animal welfare professionals—is designed to improve empathy, reduce recidivism, and foster healthy social connections.
Why It Matters
Research consistently shows that empathy can be taught and strengthened. By connecting youth with rescue dogs, we:
-
Provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for self-reflection.
-
Offer real-time practice in recognizing and responding to another being’s needs.
-
Interrupt cycles of violence by addressing empathy deficits early.
-
Give overlooked dogs a second chance at life and purpose.
